C-Class Brings Mercedes To The First Place In Luxury Sales

BMW and Mercedes-Benz are in a continuous fight over the first place in selling luxury cars. It seems that BMW couldn’t keep track with Mercedes’ sales of 20,306 vehicles in the first month of 2012.

The company owes the first place to its new 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class. BMW’s sales rose 3.1% to 16,405 last month in the States, while Mercedes’ rose 24% to 20,306 (deliveries for C-Class surged 56%).

“BMW, perhaps, was a bit more aggressive in terms of marketing and incentive efforts in December which may have pulled ahead some of their sales from January,” Jesse Toprak, a Santa Monica, California-based analyst with TrueCar.com, said in a telephone interview.

As we all know, Lexus held the first position for 11 years, its place being taken by BMW in 2011, with a 13% sales rise to 247,907, thanks to the redesigned X3 sport-utility vehicle. Only 2,715 cars made the difference between BMW and Mercedes. This year Mercedes’ top-seller was the C-Class with 6525 examples sold, followed by The E-Class with 4097 sold, M-Class with 4002 sold and Mercedes’ Bluetec diesels accounting for 1327. The previous-generation 3 Series was BMW’s top seller with 6698 vehicles sold, followed by 5Series with 3216, X5 with 2610 vehicles and the 6 Series with 409 cars sold.
